Nich had loved him very much and for along time(his father)Now knowing how it had been , even remembering the earliest times before things had gone badly was not good remembering .If he wrote it , he could get rid of it.He had gotten rid of many things by writing them.But it was still too early for that. There were still too many people , so he decided to think of something else.There was nothing to doabout his father and he had thought it through many times.

Hemingway ... Roles and the Masculine Writer.
In the novel 'Sun also Rises' he launches his sharpest attack against the modern confusions of male and female roles and his most sustained satire of sentimental illusion.The super-irony of the characters the female lead Brett the nymphomaniac and Jake the impotent*

Sentimentality, self - pity and self -justification are central themes in the sun also rises.He renounces sentimentality , it can cripple you more than a physical wound the sentimental self deception .A character Robert , who is lead to make a strutting fool of himself by engaging in the classic defined ritual of courtship by pomading and combing his hair for a girl who is trying her best not to look like a girl and who has gone beyond that kind of sentiment to a more rewarding state of continual self-pity and self-justified indulgence.

The door mat ability of Brett's victims , Self-pity is heavily satirized that it brings the novel to the edge farce.All the characters : Brett , Jake , Mike and Robert wallow in it, the irony is that the 'code' forbids the expression of emotion , the crying , the drinking , the meaningless is all wallowing and enjoying self-pity and self -justification.
The 'code'comes to resemble a farce ; the self-delusion used to make oneself feel right when doing wrong .To herd together , to scapegoat others and make it work on a set of 'principles' is a typical human technique for self justification of pride and selfishness.That the code is a sham is one of the great ironies of Hemingway's treatment of these characters.
Lady Brett - The Esquire like heroine possessing traits associated with a traditional heroine: Beauty , Wit , Pluck.Hemingway treats her with a delicate balance of sympathy and antipathy.But her current unstable condition has been caused in part , by two devastating experiences with romantic love.
Brett was literary prototype of the liberated woman , and remained to the stubbornly romantic she remains regardless of her faults the heroine victimized by the modern world.She feels she cannot be held responsible for her faults she tells herself that she is 'jinxed' or 'not good for anybody'
There is more love between Men AND Men as opposed to a Man and a Woman , it is another element of criticism directed toward the confusion of roles and the corrosive power of romantic illusion which has been destroyed the simplicity and directness of the relationship between a man and a woman.

Jake and Brett:
The center of all trouble is Brett ,he is being seduced by his false sentimentalization of Brett .He is overcome despite the role she wants him to play , he is overcome by feelings of yearning of a parody of courtly love .He cannot have her;therefore he wants her .What is more romantic than being asked to pimp for the woman you have put on a pedestal ?
